Fireside Soundscape Concerts

When it is too cold for the lawn, the sound moves indoors: a live, intimate sound journey with the warmth of a small room.

Community rideRoute soon

Slow Miles

A no-drop ride at conversation pace that ends somewhere green, with a short breath practice before the roll home.

Where we've gathered

  1. TRAE Day ’25 ride

A day on two wheels with the Houston cycling community.

  2. An early Sunset Sound Slumber

The first evenings on the lawn, and the start of the Monday rhythm.

  3. Ride to the Houston Farmers Market

    Slow miles, good fruit.

  4. Sunset Sound Slumber under the Super Full Moon

Sun down, moon up, sound in between.

  5. Edición en español: El sol se despide

    The bilingual edition.

  6. Same sound. New shelter.

The sound moved indoors for the cold months.

Nothing to perform. Just arrive.

You don't need experience, flexibility or the right clothes. Here is the shape of an evening, so nothing surprises you.

The arc of a session

  1. Arrive and settle

Golden hour. Find a spot on the East Lawn, lay out your blanket, say hello or don't. Both are welcome.

  2. Breath

A few minutes of guided breathing to quiet the day and bring your attention back into your body.

  3. Gentle movement

Slow seated or standing stretches. Every shape is optional; resting the whole time counts.

  4. Sound

As the sun drops, the handpan begins. Lie back, close your eyes, and let the tones and the evening air move through you.

  5. Integration

A quiet return: a short reflection, a few deep breaths, and space to notice what shifted.

  6. Linger

Stay as long as you like. This is where strangers start becoming community.

What to bring

  • A yoga mat, blanket or towel to lie on
  • Water
  • A layer for after the sun goes down
  • Bug spray. It is Houston.
  • Optional: an eye mask, a small pillow, a journal

How we hold the lawn

  • Phones on silent once the sound begins
  • Ask before you photograph or film anyone
  • Rest however you need: lying, sitting, leaving early
  • Your body, your pace, your boundaries

Put your hands on the sound.

A handpan you can play right here, tuned to D Kurd. Tap the tone fields, or let the Fibonacci sequence play it for you.

1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13: each number folded onto the nine notes of the pan. The pattern behind shells and sunflowers, played as a melody that never quite repeats.

    Videos

Movement, breath and rhythm as tools for coming home.

    Hi, I'm Danny.

I grew up between Miami and Honduras, and I've spent more than a decade inside sport: high school, college and professional locker rooms. I've also been a teacher, a curriculum designer, a yoga facilitator and an event producer. Under all of it, I'm an artist and a healer who keeps returning to the same three tools: movement, breath and rhythm.

StillSpoke started on a bike and a blanket. It grew into a weekly practice on the East Lawn: a handpan, a sunset, and whoever needed to set something down that day.

Add training and certifications, and one line about the first session.

    Why rest, why here

Grief has a way of rearranging time. So does exhaustion, and so does being the only one who looks like you in the wellness room. StillSpoke exists to make rest feel like something you are allowed to have, not something you earn.

It centers Black, Brown and Queer Houston, and makes room for men to be soft out loud. Everyone who comes with care is welcome on the lawn.

    Questions

The short answers about Monday nights on the lawn.

    Frequently asked

Is the Sunset Sound Slumber really free?
Yes. The Monday sessions on the East Lawn of Memorial Park are free. Private and group bookings are how we keep the lawn free for everyone else.
Where and when does it happen?
Every Monday on the East Lawn of Memorial Park in Houston. Gather about an hour before sunset; the sound begins as the sun goes down. Times shift with the seasons and are posted on Instagram and sent to the email list each week.
    Do I need any experience?
None. There is nothing to get right. You can lie down the whole time and that is a full session.
    What should I bring?
A mat, blanket or towel to lie on, water, a layer for after sunset, and bug spray. An eye mask or small pillow is a nice extra.
    What is a handpan?
A steel instrument shaped like two bowls joined at the rim, played with the hands. Each tone field rings with warm overtones, which makes it well suited to rest and meditation.
    Who is StillSpoke for?
StillSpoke centers Black, Brown and Queer Houston, and makes intentional space for men's emotional wellness. Everyone who comes with care is welcome.
Is it accessible if I have a bigger body or limited mobility?
Yes. Every movement is optional and can be done seated or lying down. The practice is built for people who don't see themselves in typical fitness spaces.
    What happens if it rains?
Weather calls go out on Instagram stories and to the email list on the day of each session.
Can I take photos or video?
Of the sky, yes. Of people, only with their permission. Rest feels different when you know no one is filming you.
